Social Enterprise

ECEC has created social enterprise opportunities for youth employment as well as for other economic endeavors to help fund programs.

The Outpost is the newest seasonal social enterprise in the ECEC nonprofit complex. Student employees now offer the same delicious coffee concoctions that once were offered at the ECEC espresso wagon. In addition, Umpqua ice cream is used to create delicious confections, floats and sundaes. The Outpost also has a certified kitchen to offer luncheon fare for visitors and tours.

The ECEC Gift Shop features work from local artists and is staffed by local youth. The gift shop is open Tue-Sun 11am-5pm.

Weddings in the park or in the Garden Haven allow for a choice of beautiful natural settings for a meaningful ceremony. An on-site coordinator is available to provide help and suggestions.

The Native Plant Propagation and Marketing Class, taught in conjunction with Elkton High School, spends the spring months using various propagation methods to produce native Oregon plants for sale and restoration. In addition to the hands-on plant production, students learn marketing skills and practices and put them to work to arrange, sign and display plants for sale to the general public. In addition to native Oregon plants, a section of the market is dedicated to perennial plants that lure butterflies and hummingbirds to the home landscape. Additional plant specimens will be used to supply BLM and watershed projects throughout Douglas County. The 90-foot greenhouse for propagation provides a spot for seed and plant production.
